The fundamental belief in the existence of a meritocratic society, particularly one governing the selection of the nation’s professional and intellectual elite, constitutes a widespread but demonstrably false ideological pillar of the United States.
The legitimacy and self-conception of America rely heavily upon this meritocratic ideal.
However, overwhelming quantitative documentation establishes that racial discrimination and endemic corruption are entrenched within the mechanisms of what is purportedly a meritocratic structure, especially within the country’s most highly selective educational institutions.
The current method for identifying and selecting the nation’s elite, centred on the highly subjective university admissions process, is characterised by being opaque, discretionary, and easily manipulated. This design permits profound favouritism and systematic corruption, thus precluding any objective standard of academic meritocracy.
The systemic failure of this process results in an intensely fierce competition for college admissions among affluent middle- and upper-middle-class families, who invest heavily in private tutoring, test preparation, and elite private schooling in an unrelenting effort to secure a marginal admissions advantage for their progeny.
Historical Development of Admissions Policy: Ethnic Quotas and Manipulation
The complex, non-objective system of academic admissions found uniquely within the United States did not evolve organically to foster broad intellectual excellence. Instead, research conclusively demonstrates that this system arose as a means of conducting covert ethnic tribal warfare.
#### The Jewish Quota of the 1920s
In the period following World War I, the established Anglo-Saxon elites controlling prestigious Ivy League institutions, including Harvard, Yale, and Princeton (HYP), became alarmed by the rapidly increasing enrolment of academically exceptional Jewish students.
These elites sought to sharply curtail the Jewish presence. Initial attempts to implement simple numerical quotas proved controversial. Consequently, university administrators reformed the admissions process, transitioning from a straightforward, objective assessment of academic merit to a highly complex, holistic review that considered all aspects of an applicant’s character and background.

Following this policy shift, the percentage of Jewish students entering Harvard dropped precipitously from nearly 30 per cent in 1925 to approximately 15 per cent in 1926, where it remained largely static for subsequent decades. These Jewish quotas only began to collapse in the aftermath of World War II, a change compelled by massive media and political pressure mobilised by Jewish organisations and their allies, which resulted in adjustments to the weight given to various academic and non-academic factors.
#### The Modern Manifestation: The Asian Quota
The discriminatory policies implemented in the 1920s exhibit a clear continuity into the present era. Paradoxically, today’s elite universities, despite serving as bastions of anti-racist ideology and promoting diversity, maintain de facto Asian quotas.

Over the last two decades, the college-age population of Asian-Americans has approximately doubled, and their rates of academic achievement have reached new, heightened levels. Notwithstanding this demographic and academic surge, the actual number of Asian students admitted to Harvard and most other Ivy League institutions has either held steady or experienced a substantial decline.
Furthermore, the Asian percentages across all Ivy League schools have converged into an extremely narrow band and remained static over time, a highly suspicious outcome that strongly implies the operation of an implicit quota system. The statistical case supporting the existence of this contemporary Asian Quota is considered stronger than the evidence that supported the Jewish Quota of the 1920s and 1930s.

Examination of high-ability student groups, specifically the National Merit Scholarship (NMS) Semifinalists (representing the top one-half of one per cent of high school seniors), reveals that
Asian students nationally constitute roughly 25 to 30 per cent of this high academic tier, a proportion significantly exceeding their eventual enrolment rates at elite universities. This disparity is even more pronounced in competitive academic events such as the Math Olympiad and the Intel Science Talent Search, where Asian dominance is greater.
##### The Meritocratic Test:
In contrast, educational institutions committed to objective, strictly meritocratic standards, such as the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), demonstrate Asian enrolment increases fully commensurate with the growth of the Asian population.

This discrimination imposes a measurable academic penalty on Asian students, who are handicapped by the equivalent of 140 points on the 1600-point combined Math and Reading SAT scale, relative to non-Jewish White applicants.
Disproportionate Representation and Academic Performance

Despite empirical data indicating a dramatic collapse in Jewish academic achievement at the highest levels, Jewish students exhibit gross over-representation in elite universities.
Objective evidence suggests that only about 6 per cent of America’s highest-ability students are Jewish. Yet, Jewish enrolment percentages in the Ivy League have generally risen or remained extremely high, a situation regarded as totally absurd and ridiculous from a purely meritocratic perspective.
##### Academic Decline and Bias:
Evidence from prestigious academic competitions, such as the Science Talent Search and the Physics Olympiad, demonstrates a notable collapse in high-end Jewish academic achievement over recent decades.
The methodology for selecting NMS Semifinalists, which double-weights the Verbal component of the PSAT and excludes Visuospatial ability, is perfectly structured to absolutely maximise the number of high-scoring Jewish students, given their exceptionally strong verbal aptitude. Yet, even with this inherent bias, Jewish NMS totals are currently far below those recorded in the late 1980s.
The General Social Survey (GSS) indicates the Wordsum-IQ (an IQ proxy) of Jews is high at 109. However, Americans of English, Welsh, Scottish, Swedish, and Catholic Irish ancestry also achieve high mean IQs of 104 or above, and their combined populations outnumber Jews by a factor of nearly 15-to-1. This demographic reality implies that non-Jewish White populations should completely dominate the upper reaches of the American ability distribution.
##### Enduring Enrolment Trends:
In the three decades following 1973, the representation of White Gentiles at Harvard decreased by as much as 70 per cent, despite no comparable decline in the relative academic performance or size of that population.
Meanwhile, the percentage of Jewish students actually increased. All gains achieved by Asian, Hispanic, black, and foreign students appear to have come entirely at the expense of White Gentiles (Whites of Christian background), and none at all at the expense of Jews.
#### The Penalty on Non-Jewish White Elites
The highest-ability students from the Non-Hispanic White demographic (aka White), a group which constitutes an estimated 63 per cent of all Americans, are demonstrably the most under-represented group in elite institutions relative to their academic performance.
Analysis of high-ability student data confirms that non-Jewish Whites make up approximately 65 to 70 per cent of America’s highest-ability students, a total that exceeds the Jewish figure by more than ten times. Despite this massive academic dominance, non-Jewish White enrolment in the Ivy League has fallen drastically below parity.
##### The Advantage of Preferences:
Racial preferences actively favour other groups, resulting in substantial academic bonuses: black ancestry is valued at the equivalent of a 310-point bonus on the 1600-point SAT scale, and Hispanic students receive a 130-point bonus, relative to non-Jewish White applicants.
The policies of Affirmative Action, which disproportionately target White Gentiles for reduction, have been opposed by non-Jewish Whites, representing less the pique of the privileged and more the resentment of the discriminated-against.
Corruption, Ideology, and Subjective Selection
The opaque and subjective nature of the admissions process functions as a perfect mechanism for introducing bias based on non-academic factors, often related to ideology, political affiliation, or personal wealth.

Due to the overwhelming liberal ideological orientation of elite universities, applicants who demonstrate excellence in conservative, mainstream activities, such as ROTC, 4-H Clubs, or Future Farmers of America, face admission chances reduced by 60 to 65 per cent, as these interests are viewed with disfavour.
##### The Red over Expert Doctrine:
The admissions failure of Tiffany Wang, a Chinese immigrant NMS semifinalist with SAT scores over 100 points above the Wesleyan average, illustrates this ideological filtering. The admissions officer rejected her, but confessed she might have been admitted had he known of her efforts campaigning against the death penalty, a political cause he supported. This episode exemplifies the Maoist doctrine of favouring Red over Expert within the elite university structure.
##### Corruption and Privilege:
The process is readily susceptible to corruption, with admissions officers routinely receiving offers of explicit bribes, including houses or cruises. This systemic corruption ensures that the less able and ambitious children of the ruling elite can easily secure places at prestigious institutions such as Harvard and Stanford.

The concept of a meritocracy is deeply intertwined with the accepted understanding of intelligence, particularly the disputed assumption that IQ is strictly determined by genetics. Empirical evidence challenges this assumption, suggesting intelligence is far more malleable than often acknowledged.

Analysis of extensive IQ data reveals overwhelming evidence that the intelligence scores of various ethnic groups are far more malleable and environmentally influenced than often assumed by proponents of the Strong IQ Hypothesis.
##### Anomalous European Variations:
Restricting examination to genetically indistinguishable European populations demonstrates significant variations in tested IQ scores across short time periods, geographical locations, and political boundaries. These large variations raise severe doubts about a strongly genetic-deterministic model of IQ. The absence of intellectual honesty and objective standards among the American elite is reflected in their handling of vital public policy debates, particularly those concerning immigration and language education.
#### The Disaster of Bilingual Education
The "language wars" controversy concerning bilingual education highlights the immense gap between popular opinion and the ideological dogmas favoured by political and academic elites.
##### The Systemic Failure:
For nearly thirty years, prior to the late 1990s, US public schools often mandated "bilingual education" programmes that functioned as Spanish-almost-only instruction for immigrant children, despite the obvious consensus among immigrants that learning English was paramount for success.
Official statistics unequivocally demonstrated the system’s failure: 95 per cent of non-English-speaking children in California failed to learn English in any given year, and schools were incentivised through extra funding to retain children in native-language programmes.
The policy was often supported by a bizarre theory, championed by academics like Professor Catherine Snow, asserting that the older one is, the easier it is to learn a new language, making adults best at new language acquisition and small children the most disadvantaged. Millions of students had their lives potentially ruined by this absurd doctrine.
##### The Assimilationist Triumph:
The Proposition 227 initiative in California (1998) was engineered to provide an assimilationist approach, mandating English-immersion classes. The campaign successfully pitted the common sense of ordinary citizens (both Latino and White) against the political elites who were beholden to bilingual education special interests.
##### Tangible Results:
The success of the initiative was undeniable. Within two years, the mean percentile test scores of over a million immigrant students rose by an average of 40 per cent, with test scores doubling in districts that most thoroughly eliminated their bilingual programmes. Subsequent reports were universally glowing, with immigrant Latino parents expressing joy that their children were finally being taught English.
This educational revolution resulted in millions of younger Californians becoming fully bilingual adults, fluent in both English and Spanish.
##### Political Treachery:
Despite the overwhelming popularity and demonstrable success of Proposition 227 (passed by voters in Arizona, Massachusetts, and Colorado), the Republican Party, nominally opposed to bilingual education for decades, distanced itself from the success and instead voted in the Senate to quadruple federal funding for these failed programmes.
This stemmed from the deep Bilingual Burden of Republican Guilt, a fear of being branded anti-minority due to their previous inflammatory rhetoric on immigration, notably Proposition 187, which would have expelled hundreds of thousands of immigrant children.
#### Economic Policy and the Minimum Wage Hoax
The economic framework of American society is underpinned by a deeply dishonest system that exploits low wages, subsidised by the taxpayer, an arrangement vigorously defended by American elites.

American workers have faced decades of stagnant earnings. The current economic structure permits businesses to pay their workers substantially less than a minimum cost of living, with the large shortfall necessarily covered by social welfare programmes. This effectively transfers billions of dollars in costs from businesses to the ordinary taxpayer in the form of hidden government subsidies.
Neoconservative thinkers, such as Prof. Gregory Mankiw, argue that society should bear the cost of supporting workers rather than the businesses that employ them, a notion that independent conservatives recognise as akin to Mainstream Republicanism's embrace of Communism.
##### The Minimum Wage Solution:
A sharp increase in the federal minimum wage, potentially to $12.00 per hour, was proposed as a solution, which would increase the income of lower-wage American workers by over $150 billion each year. This increase would require businesses to pay their own way, aligning with conservative principles of promoting work over dependency and reducing the cost of social welfare programmes.
##### Curbing Illegal Immigration:
A higher minimum wage would directly address illegal immigration by eliminating the incentive for low-wage labour. The overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants come for low-paying jobs that Americans reject because the wages are too low. Raising the floor to $12 per hour would attract Americans and legal immigrants to those positions, thereby reducing the pressure on businesses to hire undocumented workers.
##### Elite Ideological Insularity:
The debate over "Open Borders" demonstrated the ideological bubble insulating American elites. In an Intelligence Squared debate in New York City, the audience, comprising affluent urban elites, initially supported the extreme proposal of eliminating all restrictions on the movement of workers. This support vanished only after the opposing side exposed the obvious lunacy of the plan—that it would result in the total impoverishment of the American working and middle classes.
The outcome proved that elite media and policy circles had acted as unthinking cheerleaders for extreme ideas, refusing to acknowledge the catastrophic consequences for the bulk of the citizenry. The resulting vote swing was the largest recorded in the debate series’ history.
Global Contrasts and Economic Consequences
The failure of America's elite selection system has coincided with a profound concentration of wealth and a decline in international standing, starkly contrasted by the growth of economic rivals.
